Biotechnology is blazing a new trail for the use of commercial and agricultural land. Genetically modified crops are being harvested and placed into our food chain. Currently, there are many benefits of genetically modified food, but the current risks of this newfound technology are undefined. The on-going debate of biotechnology shows conflict between, Agri-biotech investors and their affiliated scientists who consider agricultural biotechnology as a solution to food shortage, and independent scientists, environmentalists, farmers and consumers who warn that genetically modified food introduces new risks to food security, the environment and human health such as loss of biodiversity (Magharri, Mohajer, and Ali). Genetically modified foods could benefit mankind greatly, as long as the reward outweighs the potential risk involved with genetic modification. Roughly 200 years ago Thomas Malthus proposed a hypothesis in which he believed the human population would continue to grow at suc h a rate that the human population would outnumber the available food supply (Nayak, Pandey, Ammayappan, Ray). The world’s population continues to grow at a high rate. For example, the world’s six billionth citizen was born in 1999 to the country of Serbia (Nayak, Pandey, Ammayappan, Ray). The hypothesis created by Malthus has led to advances in technology with agricultural sciences. These technology advances came directly in the form of biotechnology and genetic engineering. The law enforcement sector is one that all members of society have been exposed to whether it be from personal experience, hear-say or representations in the media (Horton and Smith, 1988). These exposures to the police force although from inconsistent sources, have one key consistency, they are highly gendered and hyper- masculine (Wells and Alt, 2005). The police force has experienced great advances in terms of gender relations since the 1980s, however gender still influences the trends, forces and tensions that shape what it is to be a woman in law enforcement (Wells and Alt, 2005). Gendered issues in the police force occur within the organizational approaches to management style, attitudes and discourses around sexual assault and domestic violence and gendered media representations. Although these issues systematically disadvantage women in the police force, there is also evidence of organizational shifts toward transformational management and communication, and away from transac tional management and hyper- masculinity (Silvestri, 2007). This has carved out a path for women in the police, and shown that the gendered police force as we know it is in a state of flux. It is slowly moving away from an industry that ostracizes women and into one that embraces the difference women bring as a way forward for the organization. Managers and employee's in today's work force need to obey and understand the privacy and security laws that protect one another's privacy. The importance of an employee's privacy is not a topic to be taken lightly, and if not addressed and enforced in a serious manner, could create unwanted problems in corporations and businesses. People are mistaken when they think a person has to work for them to be protected under federal privacy and security laws. Privacy laws start as soon as a person applies for a position in a company or business. Industries of today lack policies that protect them and their employee's from violation. I feel David Linowes, a professor of political economy and public policy emeritus at the University of Illinois, says it best when he explains. ?Nearly 20 years after U. S. Privacy Protection Commission submitted its recommendations urging business to voluntarily adopt privacy safeguards for its employment-related records, too many of the nation's largest industrial corporations still do not have adequate policies to protect sensitive confidential employee data from possible abuse?. Linowes surveyed 300 Fortune 500 companies about their policies on employee records. A total of 84 companies with a total of 3.2 million employees participated. In Linowes findings he discovered that 70 percent of the companies disclose personal information about employees to credit grantors, 47 percent give information to landlords, and 19 percent to charitable organizations. Believe it or not 38 percent of the compa nies don't even tell their employee's what type of information is stored ion, and 44 percent don't tell them how information is used from their own records. In the past it was a concern on what employers did to get information about their employees, now the extensive of the problem is what they are doing with it after they get the information. It was 20 years ago that his commission made recommendations to the President and Congress, That businesses be allowed to take steps on their own and handle privacy dilemmas. Linowes now states ?In view of the slow progress by too many companies during the past 20 years, it is apparent that adequate universal information privacy safeguards can only be achieved by the enactment of public policy legislation by the Congress and the President?. Legislation should allow employees to see information about themselves on which decisions are made. I feel that employees should have the right to see what is being held in their records, if they are not gr anted these privileges I believe they would feel almost threaten by managers and employment. Employees should also know who has access to these records. Employees have the right to be protected from unreasonable intrusions into their private lives. The question is, what is private and what is open to public eyes.

The Book of Kells essays ... you might believe that it is the work of an angel rather than a human being. -thirteenth century biblical scholar Giraldus Cambrensis The book of Kells is a beautiful translation of the four gospels based upon the Vulgate, the original latin translation from the original Hebrew. The book also contains the Eusipian canons and fragments of early Hebrew geneaology. It was presented to the Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland in the year 1661 by the archbishop Henry Jones. It is generally regarded as one of the most beautifull illuminated texts in the world. An Illuminated text are ancient books ussualy done on animal skin, Vellum. They were done by hand and contain marvelous illustrations often done in gold leaf and various other pigments. These pictures are designs that have pretty much spawned and defined what would come to be known as classical celtic art. These illustrations are pictorials of man and beasts, fanciful beings, gargoyles,dragons, birds, dogs, and horses are all woven together in elaborate patterns. What really strikes the viewer is not only the ornate detail of all this ornamentation, but the precis ion of the illustrators hand. The Book of Kells, is also called The book of Columba, after the Irish monk St Collum Cille. He died at the monestary of Iona, an island of the coast of Scotland, in 597 AD. In 806 vikings, probably of Danish origin, mounted a raid on Iona, killing sixty eight of the Ionic monks. Many of the remaining monks fled Iona to the monastary in Kells. Kells is on the irish mainland about seventy kilometers north of Dublin. Many scholars believe that this tranlation was commisioned to commemerate the anniversary of St Collums death in 797. It is believed that the half completed book made this flight with the monks. Very little is known about the actual authors, although scholars have been able to divine four very different hands in the calligraphy. ...
